Sports are essential for the formation of a bright, prosperous, and vibrant society and for the sound development of each individual’s mind and body (from the Basic Plan for the Promotion of Sports, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). In recent years, there have been an increasing number of cases in which information processing technology has been applied to sports, contributing to the advancement of athletic techniques. Furthermore, the elucidation of human body functions and athletic movements is essential for the development of comfortable and superior sports equipment and for the prevention and improvement of sports disorders.
In this laboratory, we view sports and welfare from the viewpoints of engineering and informatics, and are engaged in the analysis of sports data and the development and evaluation of sports equipment.
